September

September
By: Daughtry

How the time passed away
All the trouble that we gave
And all those day we spent out by the lake
Has it all gone to waste?
All the promises we made
One by one they vanished just the same

All the things I still remember
Summers never looked the same
Years go by and time just seems to fly
But the memories remain
In the middle of September
We still played out in the rain
Nothing to lose but everything to gain
Reflecting now on how things could've been
It was worth it in the end

Now it all seems so clear
There's nothing left to fear
So we made our way by finding what was real
Now the days are so long
That summer's moving on
Reach for something that's already gone

All the things I still remember
Summers never look the same
Years go by and time just seems to fly
But the memories remain
In the middle of September
We still played out in the rain
Nothing to lose but everything to gain
Reflecting now on how things could've been
It was worth it in the end

Yeah, We knew we had to leave this town
But we never knew when and we never knew how
We would up here the way we are

We knew we had to leave this town
But we never knew when and we never knew how

All the things I still remember
Summers never look the same
Years go by and time just seems to fly
But the memories remain
In the middle of September
We still played out in the rain
Nothing to lose but everything to gain
Reflecting now on how things could've been
It was worth it in the end

During devotions yesterday, someone shared about how she had faced a conflict with one of her friends and the importance of maintaining friendships. I'd always thought that as we move into another part of our lives, our old memories would fade and our friendship would fade away. It takes a really strong friendship to withstand all the hurdles life throws at us. To stay so close even when we no longer have common breaks, common topics or even common problems faced, that is, to me, quite a feat. And when we get together, its like all the differences fall apart and we simply become what we are- the best of friends.

I am really grateful to have been given the chance to get to know them, to have the sort of friendship that hopefully nothing can break. Perhaps things may be different in the future when our lives get too different, too complex. That's what my cynical self is telling me. However, i shall simply enjoy the great company i have now. Even despite the fact that it may not last forever, i really hope that somehow, it will.

"Years go by and time just seems to fly
But the memories remain
In the middle of September
We still played out in the rain
Nothing to lose but everything to gain
Reflecting now on how things could've been
It was worth it in the end"
